The steppe, Ulaanbaatar and genuine space — but be clear-eyed: there is no nomad visa and no retirement route, so a long stay means an employer, a business, or an investment.
At least one route here publishes no income or savings floor at all (Employment Visa and C-category Residence Permit). Documented routes cover employer-sponsored and investment. Naturalisation is not a realistic prospect for most foreign residents here.
How Mongolia compares

Employment Visa and C-category Residence Permit
Requires a Mongolian employer or inviting legal entity, a job description and a work permit from the labour authority. Mongolia uses sector-specific C1–C11 employment categories; after entry, a worker staying long term must apply for the corresponding residence permit within 21 days. The immigration step is listed at 3–5 working days, excluding the separate work-permit and employer preparation stages.
Investor Residence (B1)
For an investor in a Mongolian foreign-invested company. Mongolian investment law defines such a company as having at least $100,000 in equity, with each foreign investor holding at least 25%. The investor residence permit is generally issued for up to 1 year and can be renewed; permanent residence is not automatic.
Worth knowing: Requires a qualifying Mongolian company, the prescribed ownership structure and immigration approval.
