🇰🇿 Kazakhstan visa and residence routes

The region's first digital-nomad visa, plus a separate IT track that actually leads to permanent residence — Almaty runs on fast fibre and the most advanced mobile payments in Central Asia.

At least one route here publishes no income or savings floor at all (Digital Nomad Residency (B9-1)). The single documented route is remote work / self-employment. Naturalisation is not a realistic prospect for most foreign residents here.

How Kazakhstan compares

Living costs sit mid-table for this list, at roughly €1,200 a month for one person. English will not carry you far in daily life or administration — expect to need the local language.

Who these routes are built for

Based on the routes currently included in our database for Kazakhstan, these options suit people earning from remote work or their own foreign clients.

They are a poor fit for retirees, since no passive-income route is published.

What the bar means in practice

The lowest income requirement, €2,750 a month on the Neo Nomad Visa (B12-1), sits against living costs of about €1,200 a month. That is about 2.3 times what one person typically spends here, so the bar is set well above the cost of actually living in the country — these routes are screening for comfort, not survival. If that is out of reach, the nearest lower bar in Asia-Pacific is 🇺🇿 Uzbekistan, which starts at €2,300 a month.

The financial bar is the main money test for that route — a monthly income floor, or the savings to show where no income floor applies. Figures are for a single applicant; most programmes scale upward for a partner or children.

Which of these would actually take you?

Routes in our database, in detail

Neo Nomad Visa (B12-1)

INCOME FLOOR €2,750 A MONTHTYPICAL PROCESSING 1 MONTHSDOES NOT LEAD TO RESIDENCY BY ITSELF

$3,000/month from sources outside Kazakhstan, evidenced by 6 months of bank statements, plus a tax return, health insurance and a clean criminal record. Issued for up to 1 year and extendable for one additional year. Family can receive visas for the same period; local employment is not permitted and this route does not itself lead to permanent residence.

Digital Nomad Residency (B9-1)

TYPICAL PROCESSING 1–2 MONTHSCAN LEAD TO RESIDENCY

For IT specialists relocating to apply for permanent residence. The B9-1 visa is valid for up to 1 year and requires a petition from Astana Hub or the authorised IT body; it is a bridge into the permanent-residence procedure, not a ten-year visa.

Worth knowing: Open to IT professionals only, and approved case-by-case by Astana Hub — we can't verify your field or their decision.
